Northrop Grumman Corp. said Friday it won a $303 million contract to build five unmanned aircraft systems for the U.S. Air Force. The Los Angeles defense contractor also was awarded a $50 million U.S. National Guard training contract.Northrop will build five Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems for the 303d Aeronautical Systems Group at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The company also will build a ground station at the base for the planes.
The Global Hawk can send near real-time reconnaissance data and fly at altitudes of more than 60,000 feet for more than 32 hours, the company said.
In the five-year training contract, Northrop will support planning and execution for education, training, exercises and assessments for the National Guard Bureau headquarters.
Shares were up 2 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $54.52 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
