Ousted L.A. Mayor James Hahn has landed a job drumming up clients for the real estate and investment firm of a political supporter, Bill Chadwick.

Hahn, 55, joined Brentwood-based Chadwick Saylor & Co. as a managing director immediately after leaving office, Chadwick confirmed Tuesday.

Hahn’s initial tasks will be trying to land investors for the firm and serving as legal adviser on various real estate and securities matters, said Chadwick, who is managing partner. (Before serving as mayor, Hahn served four terms as City Attorney.)

Chadwick said he approached Hahn about a position with his firm shortly after his May 17 defeat to Antonio Villaraigosa.

Through Chadwick, Hahn declined comment.

Chadwick Saylor is a real estate investment and fund-management firm with offices in Brentwood and Atlanta. According to its Web site, clients include public real estate investment trusts, public C-corporations, private developers, insurance companies, investment advisers and pension funds.

The company has no projects pending in the city of Los Angeles, Chadwick said. Under city ethics laws, city elected officials are prohibited from lobbying other city officials for one year after leaving office.

Chadwick has been a fixture on the L.A. investment and sports scene. In 1999, he was then-Gov. Gray Davis’ hand-picked negotiator with National Football League owners to try to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles. After two months of futile negotiations, he resigned.

Davis then named Chadwick to the board of the California Science Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission; he is now president of the Coliseum Commission.

During the recent mayoral campaign, Chadwick supported Hahn, giving at least $5,000 to his primary and general election campaigns. He also hosted a fundraiser for Hahn.

Chadwick’s wife, Cheryl, just finished serving as chair of the Getty House Foundation, which oversees the mayor’s official residence in Hancock Park.
