The Pentagon has awarded Northrop Grumman Corp. four contracts totaling more $116 million, with the largest a $58 million contract to complete a counter-rocket artillery and mortar system for the Army.

The artillery system is to be built in Huntsville, Ala., and is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter next year, the Pentagon said late Friday.

In addition, the Pentagon awarded the Los Angeles defense contractor a $42 million contract to build spare and repair parts for Navy weapons-system navigation and radars. The contract will be performed in Charlottesville, Va. and is expected to be completed by October 2012.

Another Northrop division received a $9.6 million Air Force contract for a preliminary design for a communications system for the MQ-9 Reaper, an unmanned aerial vehicle.

In the last contract, a Northrop division received an Army contract for nearly $7 million to perform work on an integrated base-defense system That job will be performed in Herndon, Va. and is expected to be completed by October 2010.

Northrop shares closed down 17 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $51.08 on the New York Stock Exchange.
