Charles Crumpley has been named editor of the Business Journal, effective Jan. 1, Publisher Matthew Toledo has announced.

Crumpley, who had been business editor of the Times-Picayune of New Orleans for three years, succeeds Mark Lacter, who earlier announced that he would be stepping down after nine years heading the Business Journal’s newsroom. Lacter will continue to play a role with the paper.

As editor, Crumpley will be in charge of all editorial operations for both the weekly Business Journal and the daily online edition. “I’m really looking forward to working at the Los Angeles Business Journal,” he said. “It is an outstanding and award-winning publication, and I’m honored to play a part in continuing that fine tradition.”

Before the Times-Picayune, Crumpley was business editor of the Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City. He also was senior financial writer for the Kansas City Star and before that spent 14 years at the Kansas City Times.

He has won four national journalism awards and has been awarded two national fellowships, including a Fulbright fellowship to Japan.

“One of Charlie’s greatest assets is his interest and curiosity about the dynamic business environment we have here in Los Angeles,” said Toledo. “I know our readers will benefit from his curiosity about our region’s economy.”
