L.A. Gas Prices Slip for Seventh Week

Despite a record number of Southern California drivers making Memorial Day weekend getaways, which normally ups gas prices, motorists in Los Angeles paid less at the pump for the seventh consecutive week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area dipped 4 cents to $2.408 on Friday from $2.448 one week ago. The price was $2.590 per gallon one month ago and $2.365 one year prior, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

“Gas prices dropped at a slightly slower pace than the prior week, which can be attributed to level crude oil prices and the increased demand over the holiday weekend,” said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. “However, analysts tell us there is still some room for prices to drop in the coming weeks.”

For the third Friday in a row, the Bakersfield area had the lowest average price in Southern California, with $2.381, down 4.1 cents. The Riverside-San Bernardino area came in second place, at $2.394. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area had the highest average local price, at $2.547.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m., June 3.
