Entercom Interested in Disney Stations

Entercom Communications Corp. is mulling buying Walt Disney Co.’s ABC radio stations, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

ABC owns 26 stations in 10 markets, while Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based Entercom owns 88 stations in 19 markets. Both companies share the Boston market, and neither has a station in Philadelphia.

Disney said last summer that it was interested in selling the stations it owns and operates. The Burbank-based media company will not sell the ABC radio network, which serves stations that are not owned by Disney but that use content provided by ABC, the paper reported.

Entercom Chief Executive David Field said a deal that gives Disney shareholders a majority of Entercom’s outstanding shares and voting control might help alleviate concerns that Disney management has expressed about the tax implications of a sale, the Inquirer said.

Field said a deal depends on whether Disney decides to sell the stations.
