The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles area began slipping again after a moderate rise last week, falling 1.3 cents to $2.961 for the week ended Oct. 10.

L.A. prices are 61.2 cents higher than they were a year ago, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

Statewide, prices dipped nine-tenths of a cent to $2.964 from $2.973 one week earlier, leaving them 63.7 cents higher than year-ago rates. California again had the highest-priced gas in the nation, after being out-priced the week before by Florida.

San Francisco was the most expensive city in the nation, gaining 2.1 cents to $3.021. Los Angeles was in second place, beating last week’s pump winner, Miami, by just one-tenth of a cent.

Minnesota had the lowest-priced gas of the states surveyed, at $2.589 per gallon, and the city with cheapest gas was Cleveland, which fell 14.2 cents to $2.772 per gallon.
