DirecTV Teams With Toy Makers

DirecTV Group Inc. said Tuesday that it will begin offering a game channel in a partnership with companies including Mattel Inc., Nickelodeon, Leap Frog and PBS Kids to attract younger viewers.


The Game Lounge channel will offer puzzle, word, card, educational and arcade-style games based on consumer and entertainment brands, such as the Nickelodean television show “SpongeBob SquarePants” and Mattel’s iconic “Barbie” doll. The channel also will offer casual games for adults, including blackjack and poker. Customers can play the games using TV remotes.


Shares in El Segundo-based DirecTV closed down 18 cents to $23.95 on Tuesday.
