California Gas Prices Heading Up

Gasoline prices are rising again in California, the Sacramento Bee reports.

The average gallon in the state hit $2.66 on Tuesday, up 5 cents since a month ago, according to a monthly survey by AAA of Northern California.

Higher crude oil prices are putting upward pressure on prices, as is the seasonal switch by refiners to costlier, cleaner summer fuel formulas.

“Given the current trajectory, we’re likely to see further retail price increase,” said David Hackett of Stillwater Associates consultants in Irvine.

Sacramentans paid an average of $2.64 a gallon Tuesday, up 6 cents from a month ago. Motorists in Tahoe City and Yreka paid $2.90 a gallon, up 20 cents and the highest in the continental United States, AAA said.
