Alaska Airlines Joins LAX Fee Fracas

Alaska Airlines has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Transportation regarding higher terminal charges at Los Angeles International Airport.

The Seattle-based airline, which specializes in West Coast travel, joined seven other airlines in filing complaints about the Feb. 1 fee hike. In January, Alaska Airlines said its annual operating costs at LAX could triple from $4 million to $12 million per year due to the new fees.

Alaska said in a statement that the fee hike “violates federal law because it unjustly discriminates against airlines with expired leases.”

The Seattle airline joins AirTran Airways, ATA Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines and US Airways Group in filing the complaint.
