Cheesecake Factory Up on Strong Sales

Shares in Cheesecake Factory Inc. rose 5 percent Wednesday after the company reported a surge in sales.


Cheesecake Factory reported second quarter net income of $24 million (33 cents per share), in line with the $24 million (30 cents) from the same period a year earlier. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of 31 cents.


Sales for the Calabasas-based casual dinning chain owner and operator jumped nearly 16 percent to $373 million but higher costs stung profit despite the jump in sales, the company said.


Shares in Cheesecake Factory jumped $1.21, or 4.9 percent, to $25.80 in afternoon trading Wednesday on the Nasdaq.
