Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has agreed to buy Morristown, N.J.-based engineering consulting firm Edwards & Kelcey.

Jacobs, a Pasadena-based engineering consulting firm, said in a statement that the acquisition is an attempt to expand its geographic reach and services in the transportation sector. Financial terms of the deal, which Jacobs said should close by the end of next month, were not disclosed.

Edwards & Kelcey is a privately held company with roughly 1,000 employees that had $200 million in revenues for 2006. Jacobs said that no layoffs were planned.

Shares in Jacobs were up 46 cents to $47.03 in afternoon trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
