Cirque du Soleil, Kodak Theatre Ink Deal

Cirque du Soleil said Monday afternoon that it will open a new show at the Kodak Theatre in 2010.


The agreement, worth approximately $100 million, is a 10-year deal between the theater and the landmark performance troupe. Los Angeles-based developers CIM Group owns the Hollywood & Highland Center, where the theatre is located.


The shows will consist of a cast of 75 and will perform 368 times per year. The theater seats approximately 3,400.


Few details were released regarding the performance. Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Lalibert & #233; said in a statement that it would focus on Hollywood’s place in the history of cinema.


“Hollywood movies are important in so many ways, artistically, culturally and socially,” he said. “They don’t just entertain. They inform, inspire and move audiences all around the world. They’ve changed the way we think and the way we live, and they’ve certainly had a positive influence on Cirque du Soleil.”


Cirque du Soleil began performing in L.A. more than 20 years ago and has performed 1,360 times. Cirque du Soleil also performed at the Kodak Theature in 2002 as part of a special act for the 74th Academy Awards.
