Shares in Capstone Turbine Corp. rose more than 6 percent early Wednesday after the company said it received a $5 million order for its microturbines to be used in hybrid electric buses.

The order is for 150 of the power generating devices and was placed by DesignLine International, a Charlotte, N.C.-based coach and bus maker. Capstone said late Tuesday that it will ship the microturbines through June 2009.

Capstone’s microturbines generate power from different fuels, such as natural gas, propane and kerosene.

The Chatsworth-based generator manufacturer said that this is the largest order to date for any of its products in a hybrid electric vehicle application.

Shares in Capstone were up 6.5 percent to $2.48 in early trading Wednesday.
