Shares in Teledyne Jump on Q2 Earnings, Upped Guidance

Shares in Teledyne Technologies Inc. jumped more than 10 percent early Thursday as the company reported that it beat second-quarter expectations and upped its annual guidance.


For the quarter, Teledyne posted net income of $32.6 million (89 cents per share), a 33 percent jump from $24.3 million (67 cents) in the same period a year earlier. The results bested Wall Street’s expectations of 74 cents per share, according to Reuters Estimates.


Revenue rose more than 19 percent to $479 million, topping analysts’ average estimates of $455 million.


Sales at its engineered systems and energy and power systems units for the Thousand Oaks-based company rose nearly 30 percent, while its biggest segment, electronics and communications, grew by nearly 20 percent.


For the third quarter, the company said it expects to earn about 77 cents to 79 cents per share which is in line with analysts’ expectations of 77 cents per share.


For the full year, Teledyne increased guidance to $3.20 to $3.25 per share, up from its prior view of $2.98 to $3.06 a share, and ahead of analysts predictions of $3.06 per share.


Shares in Teledyne were up more than 10 percent to $59.94 in early trading Thursday.
