Proposed Routes for ‘Subway to Sea’ Unveiled

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority unveiled two proposed routes Tuesday for the much-touted “subway to the sea” despite having no money to build it.

One $6.1 billion plan starts at Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, where the Purple Line ends. It continues below Wilshire, swings through Century City and Westwood and ends around Fourth Street in Santa Monica after nearly 13 miles. The other plan costs $9 billion and includes the Wilshire route, but has another line starting in Hollywood and travelling below West Hollywood.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials will share the plans with the Though $4 billion has been set aside for the subway under plans for a proposed half-percent sales-tax increase, it’s unclear whether the measure will make it onto the November ballot.
