Aecom Posts Higher Profit in Quarter

Aecom Technology Corp on Tuesday reported a 39 percent increased in fiscal first quarter net income, helped by strong growth across its businesses.

The Los Angeles Engineering and design firm reported net income of $40.9 million (38 cents per share) compared with $29.5 million (29 cents) a year ago Revenue rose 35 percent to $1.45 billion.

Revenue generated by its professional technical services division jumped 38 percent, while revenue from its management support services division was up 19 percent. As of Dec. 31, its backlog of orders was up 32 percent to $9 billion.

“Our solid first-quarter results reflect the benefits of AECOM’s diversified global business model,” said Chief Executive John M. Dionisio in a statement. “During the quarter, we continued to expand our business in spite of a slowing demand in some of our commercial and private facilities markets.

Shares were down 30 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $27.03, in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
