Aecom Technology Corp. said Wednesday that it was awarded a $16 million contract to provide a variety of engineering and specialist services for a new Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Located on Al-Sowah Island, the 360-bed facility will offer a wide range of diagnostic and outpatient services, the Los Angeles engineering firm said. The campus will cover more than 5 million square feet and rise to a maximum of 24 stories in the main building.

The hospital is a project of Aldar Properties and Mubadala Development Co. of Abu Dhabi. Construction has already started and is due to open in 2012.

“This important project will further advance medical care in the region,” said Chief Executive John M. Dionisio in a statement. “This win demonstrates how our global network of expertise enables us to meet the evolving needs of our clients around the world.”

Aecom shares closed up 51 cents, or nearly 2 percent, to $30.71 on the New York Stock Exchange.
