Schools Draw Some Big Fish

Luminaries are lining up to tell L.A.’s college graduates what will life will be like as they go forth.

Actress Roma Downey and her husband, reality TV producer Mark Burnett, were keynote speakers at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management ceremony. John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, was scheduled to speak at the Malibu campus’ main ceremony.

Actor James Franco, a UCLA alumnus, will speak at the main ceremony on the Westwood campus. Ariana Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, will speak at UCLA’s School of Public Affairs. Other Bruin ceremonies will feature film director Oliver Stone, at the School of Theater ceremony, and Beverly Malone, chief executive of the National League for Nursing, who will speak at the School of Nursing ceremony. The Anderson School of Management hadn’t confirmed its commencement speaker at press time.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will speak at USC’s commencement. Other keynote speakers at Trojan ceremonies include Douglas Wride, president and chief operations officer of Websense Inc., speaking at the Leventhal School of Accounting ceremony; John Katzman, founder of the Princeton Review, Rossier School of Education; Alexis Livanos, corporate vice president and chief technology officer of Northrop Grumman Corp., Viterbi School of Engineering; Warren Olney, host and executive producer of KCRW-FM (89.9)’s “Which Way, L.A.?,” Annenberg School of Journalism; and Jarl Mohn, president of the Mohn Family Foundation, Annenberg School of Communication.
