Aecom Acquires Minneapolis Firm

Aecom Technology Corp. said Monday that it has acquired Ellerbe Becket, an architecture and engineering firm.

Ellerbe Becket is based in Minneapolis, has 450 employees and has offices in seven U.S. cites and the Middle East. It provides architectural and engineering services to clients in the corporate, government, health care, higher education, professional sports and real estate development markets.

Aecom, which has 44,000 employees, said it was attracted to Ellerbe Becket’s experience in design of sports and health care facilities. Its work includes Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and Qwest Field for the Seattle Seahawks. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“We view this as the perfect opportunity to scale our growth as a leading provider of design services, and we welcome Ellerbe Becket to our global team,” Aecom Chief Executive John M. Dionisio said in a statement.

Aecom shares were up $1.44, or 5.6 percent, to $27.02 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
