Sunset Strip Hotels Join The Clubs

Sunset Strip’s high-end hotels are making a deal with the famed locale’s glitzy clubs to help their guests get into the groove.

In a six-month promotion starting March 8, seven West Hollywood hotels will give visitors what they’re calling an “all-access VIP pass” that gets them into eight of the Strip’s live entertainment venues – the Viper Room, Whisky A Go-Go, the Roxy, Key Club, Rainbow, the Comedy Store, House of Blues Sunset Strip and the Cat Club – without cover charges or waiting in line.

It’s the first time for the promotion, which will be offered to guests of the Andaz West Hollywood, the Grafton, the London West Hollywood, Mondrian, the Standard Hollywood, Sunset Plaza Best Western and the Sunset Marquis.

Todd Steadman, executive director of the Sunset Strip Business Association, which launched the promotion, said the pass will help introduce visitors to the kind of entertainment that makes the clubs famous. And it’s good for the venues, too.

“They see this as an opportunity,” he said. “The people who are staying in those hotels are likely to spend money on food or drinks.”

The Strip has faced increased competition in recent years from new nightclubs and restaurants that have opened a few miles east in Hollywood.

But Steadman said the Strip is still alive with the unexpected, especially in terms of celebrity sightings – a big draw for tourists.

“There are A-list comics that come in to the Comedy Story unannounced to try out their material,” Steadman said. “Or the Key Club gets surprise guests that come in, from Pink to various other artists, who will just get up on stage.”
