Playboy is putting some skin into the world of wine.
Playboy Enterprises Inc. in Beverly Hills launched a wine club last month, an Internet-based subscription service that delivers wine to the doorstep of bunny fans each quarter.
The Playboy Wine Club packages, with names such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, cost $129 for a dozen bottles chosen from wineries around the world.
A la carte wines run between $13 and $150 a bottle, but an introductory promotion cuts prices in half.
The media company will be competing for wine subscriptions with Monrovia’s Wine of the Month Club and similar offers from Williams-Sonoma and the Wall Street Journal.
Playboy signed a licensing agreement with Eagle, Idaho-based e-tailer Barclay’s Wine to make the wine club possible.
Scott Flanders, chief executive of Playboy Enterprises, said the wine club is in keeping with the Playboy lifestyle.
“We carefully select a handful of wines that represent the essence of the Playboy brand – delightfully jovial, indulgent and carefully crafted – while catering to the consumer’s desires to celebrate life and live it with a little style,” he said in a statement.
