The Royal Treatment for Fantasy Fans

Want to walk the grounds of Winterfell or see where Robb Stark fell in love? You might not be up to speed on “Game of Thrones” references, but Crystal Cruises is seeking passengers who are.

The Century City cruise line is offering a “Thrones”-themed tour package for passengers aboard summer cruises stopping in Northern Ireland, home to several filming locations for the HBO fantasy epic.

For an extra $289 apiece, Crystal passengers will get a tour of Castle Ward, a medieval spread near Belfast where the Winterfell scenes are filmed, and other locations. Passengers can also try out bows and arrows – it wouldn’t be a true “Game of Thrones” experience without weaponry – and see costumes from the series.

It’s not the first pop-culture package the cruise line has offered. When Scandinavian thriller “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” was in theaters, Crystal offered a tour of filming locations in Stockholm.

Crystal spokeswoman Susan Wichmann said she’s not sure if the themed packages bring in new customers, but the goal is to encourage repeat business by offering new experiences.

“We have a very savvy group of travelers who tend to sail with us. They’ve sailed places before,” Wichmann said. “We’re always looking for new ways for travelers to experience places.”
