A new affiliation between Torrance Memorial Medical Center and USC Keck School of Medicine is expected to increase the former’s ability to provide heart surgery services.

The affiliation, announced Monday, will allow USC surgeons Jack Sun, Craig Baker, Michael Bowdish, Fernando Fleischman and Amy Hackmann to join Torrance Memorial’s medical staff. The doctors are set to work with Torrance Memorial’s John M. Stoneburner.

Torrance Memorial reported that the addition of new surgeons at Torrance Memorial will increase its ability to provide such surgical services as complex valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic root and arch surgery, treatment of arrhythmias, and percutaneous heart valve therapy.

“Additional surgical coverage will ensure that community members will have a highly skilled team available in an emergency to treat highly complicated cardiac cases,” Torrance Memorial Chief Executive Craig Leach said in a press release.
