Blow-Dry App More Than Just Hot Air

Blow-dry salons litter Los Angeles, but getting to one can still be a hassle. West Hollywood’s Beautiq thinks it has the answer.

The company launched an app this month that allows customers to order blow-drying and other beauty services at their home, office or hotel.

Roger Sanchez, Beautiq’s founder, said he got the idea after working as a receptionist at blow-dry salons in Orange County.

“There was a growing concern about the lack of time in their day to commute to these salons,” he said. “Not to mention, you couldn’t get all of your favorite beauty services from one location.”

The app allows customers to schedule hair and makeup appointments within the hour, seven days a week. Prices range from $20 for false eyelashes to $100 for an up-do hairstyle. A blow-dry costs $60.

Sanchez has 10 stylists, paid on a commission basis, committed to the service. Each has had a background check and is trained and certified, he said, and they arrive with all the necessary tools and products. He has raised and spent about $500,000 and is seeking more money as he looks to expand.

The service is available in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Studio City and downtown Los Angeles, and Sanchez said the plan is to expand to other areas over the next six months. San Francisco, Las Vegas and New York are in the plan for next year.

“A businesswoman who travels can expect the same service she loves here in Los Angeles to be ready and waiting for her when she lands in New York,” he said.
