THE MONEY: President and co-founder of downtown L.A. private equity firm Oaktree Capital Group saw value of company stock stay relatively flat.

BUZZ: Oaktree, co-founded with Howard Marks in 1995, continues to perform well after going public in April 2012. Firm has $83.6 billion in assets under management. Both Karsh and Marks sold shares worth $90 million in a secondary offering last year; both still have large stakes in company. Karsh serves on board of several companies, including Charter Communications and Los Angeles Times’ parent, Tribune Co. Graduate of Duke University also chairman of school’s investment management subsidiary, Dumac. Sits on school’s board and has pledged with wife, Martha, to donate $85 million for scholarships. Owns Ritz-Carlton hotel in Clayton, Mo., and Fender Musical Instruments world headquarters building in Scottsdale, Ariz. Karsh and wife lost lawsuit – and subsequent appeal – against them and city of Los Angeles by Saudi prince neighbor. Couple had for years aggressively opposed his plan to develop a large estate in Benedict Canyon.
