DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. will design an education entertainment attraction for a resort complex to open this year in Manila, the company announced Thursday.

The Glendale animation studio will create “DreamPlay by DreamWorks” at City of Dreams Manila as an interactive attraction featuring characters from its films, including “Kung Fu Panda,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” and “Madagascar.”

City of Dreams Manila is being developed by Melco Crown (Philippines) Resorts Corp., a subsidiary of Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd., in Macau, a developer, owner and operator of casino gaming and entertainment resort facilities in Asia.

“DreamPlay” will be a distinctive opportunity for visitors in an educational setting, said Paul Kurzawa, head of global retail development & entertainment at DreamWorks Animation.

“Harnessing leading digital technologies, this attraction is going to be unlike anything that currently exists and will undoubtedly become a new type of destination for families, both in the Philippines and across the rapidly growing leisure-destination markets of Asia,” Kurzawa said in a prepared statement.

DreamWorks is making a larger push into Asia with the opening of a waterfront entertainment district in Shanghai called the Dream Center with a Chinese partner.

Shares closed up 34 cents, or 1.3 percent, to $26.91 on Nasdaq.
