Puma, DreamWorks Among Week’s Big Movers

The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of largest local public companies rose for the week.

The weighted LABJ Stock Index closed up 2 percent to 191.08 for the trading week ended May 23. Gainers outpaced decliners 108 to 47, with seven companies unchanged.

The biggest mover was Puma Biotechnology in Los Angeles. The company reported a loss in the first quarter of 2014, but also made advancements in testing of a breast cancer drug. Shares jumped 22 percent to $75.27.

Shares in DreamWorks Animation rose 14 percent to $27.49 after the studio adjusted the release dates for two of its upcoming films, moving “Penguins of Madagascar” to November 26 and “Home” to March 27, 2015.

Also losing was Playa Vista ad tech firm Rubicon Project, which dropped 7 percent to $12.31. The company was trading even lower, but made up a bit of ground at the end of the week after analysts at Oppenheimer and RBC Capital Markets upgraded the stock.
