Walt Disney Co. announced on Tuesday it is making its cloud-based movie streaming service available to film titles purchased at Wal-mart stores or through the retail chain’s VUDU on-demand service.

The Burbank entertainment and media giant will allow VUDU accounts to link with Disney Movies Anywhere accounts so viewers can watch 400 live action and animated feature films from Disney, Pixar and Marvel on a variety of digital devices.

“Wal-mart is a top destination for Blu-ray and DVD purchases, and bringing Disney Movies Anywhere to VUDU enhances the value of those purchases,” said Janice Marinelli, president, Disney Studio In-Home and Digital Distribution & Disney-ABC Content Distribution, in a prepared statement.

VUDU works on multiple platforms, including Internet-connected TVs, Apple and Android mobile devices, set-top boxes such as Roku, and PlayStation and Xbox game consoles. VUDU, in Sunnyvale, is a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark.

Disney launched its Disney Movies Anywhere streaming service in February starting with Apple Inc.’s iTunes and later added the Google Play online store where content can be purchased.

Shares in Disney closed down 13 cents, or 14 percent, to $90.28 on the New York Stock Exchange.ck Exchange.
