Motives Questioned at Cash Clinics for Undocumented Immigrants

Dr. Mark Ghaly, deputy director for community health with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, has nicknamed them bodega clinics: storefronts across Los Angeles County that advertise discounted health exams, stay open during hours that are convenient to day laborers, and serve predominantly latino patients who pay in cash. Ghaly said the clinics appear to serve a clear purpose, which is to provide health care to the undocumented immigrants who have no other options, but there are some who question their practices, claiming they place money-making over patient welfare, the Daily News reports.
