L.A.’s Top Round Plans Nationwide Roll-Out

Local fast food joint Top Round Roast Beef has just one location, but its owners say they’re ready to expand across the country.

The 16-month-old restaurant at the corner of Olympic Boulevard and La Brea Avenue announced on Friday that it signed a franchising agreement with the Upside Group Franchise Consulting of Scottsdale, Ariz. Upside and Top Round want to partner with multi-unit franchise operators located elsewhere in Los Angeles, in addition to New York, Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco.

Top Roast was founded by Steven Fretz, chef at The Church Key in West Hollywood; Noah Ellis, co-owner of Red Medicine in Beverly Hills; Jamie Tiampo, the owner of SeeFood Media in New York; and Anthony Carron, whose West Los Angeles chain 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria has also been expanding.

Top Roast serves up “nostalgic” food – including curly fries and frozen custard – in a space with retro décor.
