LAX on Pace for Record Year

Los Angeles International Airport remains on pace for a record year after a strong September, according to passenger traffic figures released Friday.

About 5.6 million passengers traveled through LAX last month, a 5 percent increase over September 2013. Through the first nine months of the year, 53.5 million passengers have moved through the airport, a 6.3 percent increase over the same period last year.

If the airport keeps that pace through the rest of the year, it will see more than 70 million passengers in 2014. That would be a new high-water mark for the airport. LAX’s passenger count peaked at 67.3 million in 2000. Last year was the airport’s second best, with 66.7 million passengers.
