Passenger counts at Los Angeles International Airport continued to climb last month, and the airport remains on pace to break its passenger traffic record, according to figures released Monday.

At LAX, 6.7 million passengers boarded or exited planes last month, a 6 percent increase over the same month last year, according to the latest report from city airport operator Los Angeles World Airports.

From January through August, more than 47.9 million passengers have moved through the airport, a 6 percent over the same period last year.

At the current pace, this year’s passenger traffic will eclipse the record set in 2000, when 67.3 million passengers moved through LAX. Last year was the airport’s second-best year, with 66.7 million passengers.
