Stocks Rise; Ritter Pharmaceuticals Climbs, Marathon Sinks

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 68 points in Monday trading to close at 17,545.

The S&P 500 rose 11 points to 2,102.

The Nasdaq rose 43 points to 5,092.

The LABJ Stock Index rose three points to 239.

Gainers and Losers

Monday’s biggest local gainer was Ritter Pharmaceuticals Inc., a developer of drugs to treat lactose intolerance. Shares of the company, which went public in June, rose 10 percent on the day, closing at $3.51. Despite the bump, the firm is trading for well below its IPO price of $5 a share.

West L.A. patent litigation firm Marathon Patent Group Inc. was the day’s biggest loser. Shares fell 13 percent on the day, closing at $2.53.
