West L.A. law firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp – among the largest law firms in Los Angeles County – will join forces with Westwood’s Richardson & Patel later this week, the firms announced Monday.

The firms’ merger is slated to take effect Wednesday. The attorneys at Richardson & Patel, founded in 2000, have already begun moving into the West L.A. office of MS&K, said Nimish Patel, co-founder and co-managing partner, adding that his firm’s Westwood office is now closed.

Richardson & Patel is a boutique firm with eight lawyers in Los Angeles specializing in corporate finance, securities, merger and acquisitions, private equity and other general corporate matters. The firm will start using the MS&K name on Wednesday.

Once combined, MS&K will have 130 lawyers spread between offices in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. The vast majority – 101 attorneys – of the MS&K team will work from the West L.A. post.

Patel will serve as vice chairman of MS&K. Kevin Gaut, current managing partner of MS&K, will be chairman.

“What we found with our existing clients is that as they were maturing and growing, we weren’t able to provide them with the full list of services that they needed,” Patel said. “And when we got to know MS&K, we saw that it was a perfect fit.”

MS&K, founded in 1908, is a full-service law firm that specializes in everything from immigration matters to corporate and trade legal work, including intellectual property, litigation, and labor and employment.
