LAST YEAR: $6.73 billion*

AGE: 91

RESIDENCE: Beverly Hills

SOURCE OF WEALTH: Broadcasting, film, movie theaters

THE MONEY: As executive chairman of Viacom and CBS, Redstone is a true emperor of entertainment. He controls an 80 percent stake in National Amusements Inc., which in turn holds shy of 40 million shares in each of the media giants.

BUZZ: Redstone will celebrate his 92nd birthday May 27, and speculation continues over his role at both CBS and Viacom. He missed earnings calls this year, said to be due to health concerns, for the first time. Redstone sold shares in Viacom and CBS valued at $200 million last year, a move widely interpreted as an estate planning measure. His 44-year-old girlfriend, Sydney Holland, adopted a baby in 2013 and is said to be raising her at Redstone’s Beverly Park mansion. He has feuded with his daughter Shari (who owns the 20 percent stake in National Amusements not controlled by her father) and his son, both from his first marriage. Shares of Viacom plunged 20 percent over last 12 months, a result of declining ratings and ad sales at MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, Spike and Comedy Central. Things look more promising at CBS, which reported best-ever fourth-quarter results in 2014. Redstone, who won control of Viacom in 1987 and spun off CBS in 2006, has been absent from public view in recent months.
