IPC Buys Virginia Doctors Group

IPC Healthcare Inc. is set to be acquired later this year, but that isn’t stopping the firm from making an acquisition of its own.

The North Hollywood company on Tuesday announced it has acquired Mid-Atlantic ElderCare, a doctors group in Woodlawn, Va., that’s focused entirely on providing medical care to patients of nursing homes and retirement communities.

IPC is in a similar line of business, supplying doctors to hospitals and nursing homes. In a statement announcing the deal, IPC executives estimated Mid-Atlantic will add about 64,000 patient visits a year to IPC’s books. Mid-Atlantic contracts with facilities in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition beefs up IPC’s portfolio just as IPC is set to be acquired by another firm, TeamHealth of Knoxville, Tenn.

TeamHealth announced last month it plans to buy IPC for $1.6 billion. The deal is expected to close later this year.
