NFL Union Confirms Talks to Help Fund L.A. Stadium

The NFL has declined to comment on published reports that it was in discussions with the NFL Players Association to help fund a stadium in Los Angeles.

Bloomberg News reported earlier today that the league was in discussion with the union to amend the collective bargaining agreement to extend what are called stadium credits, a portion of funds the union contributes to new stadiums. Under the current agreement, which runs until 2020, the owners have already used up all such credits.

Bloomberg said that if two teams share a stadium – as has been proposed for a stadium in Carson – the value of the credits could reach $300 million.

In an email, a spokeswoman for the NFLPA would confirm that talks regarding funding for an NFL stadium in the Los Angeles area had taken place. No further specifics were forthcoming.

In addition to the Carson project, St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke has announced plans to build a stadium on the former Hollywood Park site in Inglewood.
