Supplements Firm Already Hits Target

E-hydrate, a Marina del Rey maker of protein on-the-go packets and energy gels, just launched this month, but the company has already signed a distribution deal with Target and partnered with actress Sofia Vergara, who joined the company as an equity partner.

Peter Evans, E-hydrate’s chief marketing officer, said the company formed earlier this year but was in “quiet mode” to focus on developing its various product lines and gauge customer interest by selling on Amazon and its own website.

“We saw a big opportunity in the marketplace,” Evans said. “The big focus was on the quality and flavor.”

Evans said E-hydrate selected production partners who could help it scale the business in order to work with retail giant Target.

He added that the retailer will be carrying the company’s hydrate drink mixes and its chocolate and vanilla protein on-the-go packets. The packets are filled with protein powder and can be rolled up into a bag or purse. When the customer is ready to drink, they simply pour water into the packet, shake it and drink.

And having Vergara, a co-founder of talent management firm Latin World Entertainment, join the company will only expand its audience, Evans said.

“As an equity partner, she has a significant role with the company – a strategic role,” he said. “LWE’s reach in social media is huge and their track record in the marketplace is unmatched.”
