Hyperloop Gambles on Las Vegas Test Site

Los Angeles-based Hyperloop Technologies has submitted plans for a full-scale test site at an industrial park in North Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Thursday.

The new development would continue Hyperloop’s innovation of a “fifth mode of transportation,” moving people or cargo in levitated capsules through tubes at speeds up to 750 miles an hour. This would mean a Las Vegas to Los Angeles trip could take under a half hour.

According to the Apex Industrial Park’s chief executive, Rob Lloyd, the new facility could create 60 to 80 jobs in construction and engineering this year. Hyperloop broke ground last month at a 50-acre site at the Apex Industrial Park on a smaller scale.
