Huntington Park Plans Pacific Boulevard Makeover

Huntington Park city officials have proposed a $3.9-million redevelopment project to help Pacific Boulevard change with the times, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Pacific Boulevard, once the prime cultural and shopping hub for Mexican and Central American immigrants in southeast Los Angeles County, at its peak boasted about 500 businesses. Today, that number stands at 381.

Remedies suggested in the plan include putting up new street signs and better lighting. Bike lanes would be added, and drought-resistant plants would line the sidewalks. The plan would also allow developers to construct buildings to lure mainstream retailers and restaurants.

Some companies, including Target and Blink, a national fitness club, have expressed interest in coming to Huntington Park, providing further support for the city’s efforts to attract more businesses and cater to broader audiences.
