El Segundo toy maker Mattel Inc. said today it won the toy license for the upcoming new “Jurassic World” film.

The toys will hit the store shelves beginning July 2017, almost a year ahead of the movie’s release.

As part of the deal with NBCUniversal, Mattel will design, produce and distribute a wide range of toys, including action figures, cars, and games, with a theme of the “Jurassic World” films.

The news come a day after another toy maker Hasboro Inc. canceled its contract with NBCUniversal, citing a disagreement over renewal terms.

The rival companies have been competing for contacts with film studios as their sales for Barbie dolls and other traditional toys have been winding down.

“We are honored that NBCUniversal chose Mattel to help bring the Jurassic World brand to life,” said Chris Sinclair, chairman and chief executive for Mattel, in a statement. “And we look forward to developing multiple new lines of innovative, engaging toys and products.”

With a worldwide box-office gross of over $1.6 billion, “Jurassic World” was a big hit last summer. The new movie, which is scheduled to be released in June 2018, will feature Steven Spielberg as executive producer.
