Stocks Mixed on Falling Oil Prices, Dollar Drop

Stocks were mixed Thursday as investors digested falling oil prices, a new drop in the dollar and a surprise jump in jobless claims.


In midafternoon trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 57.12, or 0.5 percent, to 10,862.74. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was up 3.05, or 0.2 percent, at 1,210.06. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.87, or 0.04 percent, to 2,060.42.
