Schwarzenegger to Replace Trump as “Celebrity Apprentice” Host

Donald Trump’s replacement as host of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice” is another larger-than-life celebrity, businessman and politician: former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“The Governator” will take over when the reality show returns to the network during the 2016-17 season, which will see the series relocating from New York to the “Governator’s” home city of Los Angeles.

The search for a new host began after Trump told NBCUniversal several months ago that he would not return to the series due to his presidential bid. Announcing the new hire, NBC’s president of alternative programming Paul Telegdy said in a statement Monday, “Arnold Schwarzenegger is the epitome of a global brand in entertainment and business. He will use his vast and highly successful business, political and media experience to drive this hit franchise to new heights.”

Schwarzenegger said in a statement, “I have always been a huge fan of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ and the way it showcases the challenges and triumphs of business and teamwork.”

On the show, which has been a steady ratings performer for NBC over the past 10 years, celebrity contestants work in teams to perform business challenges raising money for charity with one of them fired each week until the winning apprentice emerges.

No news yet on whether Schwarzenegger will keep Trump’s signature “You’re fired” catchphrase or substitute something of his own – perhaps “Hasta la vista, baby.”
